ABOUT THERAPY

WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO THERAPY?

My approach is Psychodynamic and Attachment-based. I draw from various other schools of thought, including Emotionally-Focused, Humanistic, Existential, Somatic, and Mindfulness-based approaches.

WHAT IS ATTACHMENT THEORY?

Attachment Theory offers a way of understanding and providing support for the unique challenges that parents face in raising babies. It teaches that babies need safe and reliable caregiving to build a secure attachment. This is the foundation for healthy adult relationships and positive expectations of life and the world. Without this, a person’s ability to relax, be creative, play, and explore is limited. Attachment Theory helps parents understand and have compassion for their attachment histories, which can provide insight into their parenting.

WHAT IS DEPTH PSYCHOLOGY?

Depth Psychology is a way of seeing the big picture of a person’s life, not just the surface. What we think we know or consciously remember is only part of our story. We aren’t capable of keeping the contents of our lives in mind and accessible all the time. And really, who would want to? But often, some of what has been tucked away is the key to a more fulfilling life. Deep personal growth often comes from the process of making room for what has been stored out of sight.

HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

Weekly sessions are ideal, especially in the beginning. I recommend committing to meeting weekly for the first 8 weeks at a minimum. Rhythm and predictability are an important part of healing, and a weekly meeting supports deeper therapeutic work.

HOW LONG UNTIL I’M FEELING BETTER?

Many people experience the benefits of therapy after the first session, but deep and lasting change takes time. Sometimes, clients initially feel worse, as therapy brings to light painful memories or emotions. This is usually a good sign that change is happening, and clients report that this initial discomfort brings an improvement in their overall well-being. Clients often participate in therapy for a few months to a few years.

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

Individual 50 minute sessions cost $200.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I am not contracted with any insurance companies in California, but I am paneled with Cigna, Moda, Aetna, and Pacific Source in Oregon. Depending on your insurance, you can use your benefits for full or partial reimbursement. For anyone wishing to use this option, I will send a super-bill or a monthly itemized receipt for you to submit to your insurance company. Please be sure to contact your insurance company and ask about out-of-network provider coverage before you seek reimbursement, since each company and policy is different. While some offer generous reimbursement, others may not reimburse at all.
